Bulk Attachment Download
This is the documentation for the Jira Cloud add-on Bulk Attachment Download.
Installation
On the marketplace listing click on the ‘Try it free’ button in the upper right corner. Select the Jira Cloud instance where you want to install the add-on and click ‘Start free trial’. This will automatically provision the add-on to your Jira Cloud instance. Note that this process requires administrator rights.
General Usage
Having installed the add-on, the function ‘Download all attachments’ will be available in the Jira issue navigator.
The issue navigator can be accessed by clicking ‘Issues and filters’ followed by ‘Search issues’ or any filter (stored search).
In the Issue Navigator, search for Jira issues whose attachments you want to download.
By clicking the button 'Download all attachments' in the upper right corner a dialog opens, which shows some statistics as well as options for the configuration of the download.
By clicking on the 'Download' button, the window is closed and the download is prepared. Depending on the number of issues queried in the navigator, the download will start immediately or take some seconds to start. Clicking the 'Cancel' button closes the window without downloading anything.
The downloaded file will be a zip archive containing all attachments of any issues found. This includes the issues which are not among the 50 results displayed on the first page but are displayed on later pages. There is no Limit on the number of issues or attachments.
In the case of naming conflicts a dash and an incrementing number are appended in the following way:
Attachment in Jira | File in zip |
---|---|
file-3.txt | file-3.txt |
file.txt | file.txt |
file.txt | file-1.txt |
file.txt | file-2.txt |
file.txt | file-4.txt |
file-3.txt | file-3-1.txt |
Statistics
When opening the download dialog the plugin will start to calculate some statistics about the queried issues. This can take some time for a large number of issues. While the values are still being calculated zero values are displayed in a light gray text color with a slight gradient animation. When the calculation is complete, the values are displayed in vibrant colors.
The following information is displayed
- Issues - the total number of issues found for your search query
- Attachments - the total number of all attachments of all issues
- Size - the aggregated file size of all these attachments
Options
The 'Create a folder for each issue' option allows you to customize the structure of the zip file.
If disabled, all files are stored in the root directory of the zip file. If enabled, a folder is created for each issue that has at least one attachment. All attachments of an issue are then paced into its folder. The folder name is generated from the issue key and the issue summary.
![]() | ![]() |

If the issue summary contains characters that are illegal for file names in certain operating systems ( eg. "
*
:
<
>
?
/
\

) then they are replaced by _
in the folder name.
Known Limitations
After closing the download dialog, the ‘Download all attachments’ button will still look activated until the ESC key is pressed or the page is reloaded. This visual inconsistency will be fixed by Atlassian at some point and does not limit the functionality of this add-on.
In special circumstances, the download dialog will not open. This can happen if the dialog has been opened at least once before navigating to an issue details page and back again. Atlassian is informed and will address this bug. In the meantime, you can work around this problem by reloading the page.
